About The Authors


Charles W. Kalinski has taught Psychology and Sociology at the secondary and post-secondary levels for over fifty years. He holds eight master's degrees. One of his degrees is a Master of Science from Salford University, England, where he studied in the Sociology and Political Science Department within the Leisure and Work Studies Program. His other master's degrees are focused on the areas of Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, Education, and Business. He holds an Education Specialist degree in reading and a doctorate in counseling, with a focus on community mental health. His research interests are focused on leisure and work, mental health, personality, intelligence, and emotions.
Lesley A. Quinn taught Sociology and Political Science courses at the secondary and post-secondary levels. He studied at New York University at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. His education was focused on the field of education and social studies. He devoted most of his life to the study of gambling. His preferred method of research was the participant observation method of study. While researching the area of gambling for over thirty years, there were no limits as to where he was willing to embed himself to closely observe the gambling behaviors of numerous individuals in various settings. His quest was to understand the reason people were willing to “Risk It.”
